Red
Pot Red Heart is
a title given by "Jiang
Rong"
(the Greatest Contemporary National Grade Craft and Art Master in the purple clay arts - who is regarded as one of the "national
treasures" of China) to her apprentice, "Zhu
Dan" in 1999. Then
in 2000, Jiang Rong even commended Zhu as "The
Successor of the Purple Clay Arts".
The
purple clay works of Zhu Dan have preserved the essence of the
traditional Chinese pottery arts while trying to explore and capture the
spirit of the modern times. Zhu has also inherited the strong
points of her masters while developing her own style. This is
one of the driving forces behind her success. Besides demonstrating
superb craftsmanship, her handicrafts are also found to be exquisite in
clay selection, design, and are therefore becoming more perfect
artistically.
Therefore, the
Yixing clay or purple clay teapots handcrafted by Zhu
Dan have become
increasing coveted by many purple clay aficionados, collectors and
connoisseurs in recent years.
As
Zhu devotes only to the improvement of teapot quality, she has made
immense progress in her articles. Hence, she has been awarded many
national big prizes in the past few years. Especially in year 2002,
Zhu won several gold, silver and bronze medals in some famous national
competitions.
To
show recognition for Zhu's achievements among the new generation of purple
clay artisans, Yixing City Television produced a program about Zhu
titled "Red Pot Red Heart" which aired in March 2002.
At
the same time, many scholars, professors and artists like Mr Fan Zheng
(the greatest calligraphy and painting master in modern China), Han
Qi Lou (a very famous journalist and calligraphy artist in Yixing) and Liu
Zhao Jun (the last student of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Artist Mr
Liu Hai Lu) have been cooperating closely with Zhu. As a result,
under the patronage of these scholars, men of letters that Zhu grows in
popularity by leaps and bounds.

Zheng
- the Gem of Chinese Traditional Musical Instrument.
The
Zheng, commonly known as "Guzheng", (pronounced
"Goo-Zheng"), is one of the most ancient Chinese plucked string
music instruments that recorded in the Qin Dynasty (about 220BC).
Due to its long history, the Zheng has been called Guzheng, where
"Gu" means "ancient" in Chinese, and "Zheng"
imitates the tone of the instrument.
Throughout
centuries, people have been enchanted by the beauty and wonder a guzheng
can deliver from a piece of music. This ancient musical instrument
is rich in expression with its wide range of pitches, mellowness in tone
and loudness in sound. Whether the music is describing an ancient
scenery of mountains and rivers or the modern scroll of a majestic view, Zheng is capable of finding the most subtle vocabulary to give them
a proper description. Zheng is regarded as the "Oriental
Piano" by the westerners. In the Grand Hall of Vienna, this
oriental musical instrument won a prolonged applause from the whole
audience with its Eastern Charm.
Madam
Shao Jingqun, a celebrated Zheng virtuoso, moved to Texas, USA
in 2001 and started to teach and promote the Zheng culture there. www.guzheng.us
